Did Anything Happen While I Was Away?

I've been traveling and off the grid for the past two weeks. I see that there was news. More on that some other time.

I do have one pearl of wisdom to offer now though. When I was a young lawyer, the older partner that I worked with would sometimes describe a witness by saying: "He doesn't want to answer a question. He wants to make a speech." I find that this quote works well in many contexts. Sometimes it's a person in a meeting. Sometimes it's a politician. Sometimes it's a federal judge writing an opinion.
