The Six Stages of Scandal

This old chestnut works for any political scandal and for this impeachment (Hat Tip to Mickey Kaus)

Stage 1: It can’t possibly be true.

Stage 2: It’s not true.

State 3: You can’t prove it’s true.

Stage 4: Why are you trying to prove it’s true?

Stage 5: It’s disgusting that you’ve proved it’s true.

Stage 6: What’s the big deal anyway?

So far, we are still on stage three. So far all I have heard is gossip and innuendo. Besides, I am not convinced that even if there was a quid pro quo that it would be illegal for the president to engage in that as part of his regular administration of foreign affairs.

Stage 1: It can’t possibly be true.

State 2: You can’t prove it’s true.

Stage 3: Why is Eric Ciaramella trying to prove it’s true?

Stage 4: It’s disgusting that wikiLeaks proved it’s true.

Stage 5: I'll never be impeached for it cause my predecessor wasn't.
