Law School Hiring, 2015-2016, Thread Two

For the most recent comments, go here.

Please leave comments on this thread regarding whether you have received:

(a)  a callback from a law school and/or accepted it; or

(b) an offer from a law school and/or accepted it; feel free to also leave details about the offer, including teaching load, research leave, etc. A school listed as "offer accepted" may have made more than one offer and may still have some slots open.

Five miscellaneous things:

1. If you don't want your contact information displayed, enter [email protected] or something like that as an email address.

2. There is a  separate thread, "A Clearinghouse for Questions," for general questions or comments about the teaching market. Please do not use the thread below for general questions or comments. (Such comments will be deleted, not out of hostility or in a judgy way, just to keep this thread focused.)

3. There's quite a cache of materials relevant to the law job market under the archive categories Getting a Job on the Law Teaching Market and Entry Level Hiring Report.

4. The year's first hiring thread is here. Comments to that thread are now closed.

5. In each of the last five years, someone who is on the market has volunteered to aggregate the information on a spreadsheet. If you would like to volunteer, please contact me directly at slawsky *at* law *dot* uci *dot* edu, and I will get you set up.

Update: We once again have an aggregator! Below is the spreadsheet, which you can view and download here.

All information should come in through the comments. Our aggregator will use the spreadsheet to aggregate the information.  Only the aggregator will be able to edit the spreadsheet, but when the aggregator edits the spreadsheet, those changes will be reflected in the embedded, downloadable version below.

The aggregator will update the spreadsheet approximately once a week.

I know of two people with callbacks to Tennessee, one in business and one in health.

I'm skeptical that "many" candidates are being told that the school "might mind" whatever that is supposed to imply. The concern now is that this becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy simply by being out there. I hope that isn't the case and that this thread continues to have some value.

Anon 12:26:40, you might want to think about being a bit choosier. I understand that it's a buyer's market, and sellers need to have an open mind. But there is a different between being willing to work outside of New York or San Francisco and taking a job at a "crazy school." Joining just any faculty is not the end of the struggle.

Many candidates are being told that the school offering the callback might mind, so the risk averse response is to not post. Personally I think it would be crazy for the school to mind, but I'm not so picky as to only work for non-crazy schools.

anon 11:37:36 PM, I guess I don't understand the reluctance of candidates to post callbacks. An anonymous posting would potentially reveal the candidate's identity only to the school that made the callback, right? Would that be problematic for some reason? I guess also fail to see how withholding this information gives a candidate any significant advantage in this process.

At what point should a person realize they are not going to get a call-back? Its there usually a formal notification?

Particularly, this:

"We make a decision on who to give callbacks to, and (implicitly) who doesn't make the cut at the present time. Nobody wants to have to think about, talk about, and then vote about the hypothetical situation of, if we have to go back to the pool, those who might make the cut and those who never will. The effort required to sort those two groups is more than "time to send a short e-mail"."

In the alternative to posting here, the hiring chairs could just e-mail those who did not get callbacks, to let them know that they did not get a callback at this time.

Can hiring chairs please not leave it to the candidates to post what schools have issued callbacks? Candidates are clearly hesitant to post this information in fear of revealing their identities if they are one of a few callbacks, and this would help candidates have an idea of what schools they interviewed with are likely not in play (and help them make alternative plans earlier than later, if need be).

I'll leave it to those called back to post more details, but for what it's worth, my school has issued callbacks and all have been accepted. I share this simply to communicate that at least some callbacks have gone out (and in the course of discussions on scheduling the callbacks, it became clear that some of those we invited back have received other callbacks as well).
