Keep a Watchful Eye
Hi, all. It's November, fall going into winter. Sometimes people become down during these seasons and it's no wonder, considering the ongoing economic and personal challenges life is constantly throwing our way, the competition, the disappointments, the ongoing unstable job market. I write this note because I heard sad news this week that an attorney friend took his own life, and wanted to remind everyone that we can all help other if we remain connected and vigilant. So pay close attention to yourself, your friends, your colleagues, your students and anyone you love for potential signs of depression or possible suicidal thoughts. The signs can be as small as not returning an email, or as big as giving away precious belongings. Or the signs can be so subtle as to be not apparent at all, which makes things very hard. Do your best to notice, to be available to others, now and generally. Talk to a friend, call a professional, make a referral. Whatever it takes to show you care and possibly save a friend's life.
