See, umpires are like judges
And this is kind of like calling the judge in the middle of a depostion to get a ruling.

The umpire put the call on speaker phone so that his three (3) umpire colleagues with him could render an opinion. Contrast this with nine (9) members of SCOTUS on speaker phone, with one or more dissents.
