I wonder if any dean has ever been tempted to write something like this.

I was thinking about the employment angle, too, Joseph. I have never seen a non-compete agreement implied in-fact, but I think the Cleveland owner believes James has one.

Hey, I would settle for folks being able to say that I was willing to take a "million dollar haircut" to work for another school.

The Gilbert letter is amazing on many levels, including but not limited to the Comic Sans font. I'm an NBA fan who lives in Ohio (although I root for Detroit), so I understand that this is a big deal. And I don't think James handled this well at all. Still, everything about this letter reeks of middle-school-relationship-breakup.

Since Matt posted this, I'm trying to think of an employment law/policy angle to all this. But really, it reminds me more of a pro-wrestling story line.

I wonder if any lateraling prof has ever been tempted to/has ever wished it was conceivable to announce his/her decision in a way similar to LeBron's.
