More on Urinal Decorations

When this blog began nearly four years ago (next month is our anniversary), I posted something a bit bizarre on the semiotics of urinal cakes. Turns out there is more on this topic worth disseminating...

Via my colleague Rob Atkinson, I just discovered another way for schools to find some relief during these economic times:  adorning their urinals with donor plaques. The email reveals a link to an article observing the donation to sponsor the urinals at Penn.

"The relief you are now experiencing is made possible by a gift from Michael Zinman," read circular silver plaques above the urinals in the men's restroom of the Van Pelt Library.
Three urinals, one sponsor.
"I have a warped sense of what the world is like, and I am poking barbed gentle fun at society," said Zinman, a businessman and antiquarian book-collector, explaining what inspired him to make the "five-figure" donation to the porcelain gods.
Library officials would not, however, disclose exactly how much it costs to sponsor a urinal.

Some colleagues and I were joking around after our public-interest auction that a good item to auction off would be urinal cakes with profs' names on them--the tag line for the item would be obvious.
