Funniest Sports Commercial Ever?
This post has nothing to do with anything, except a long-winded debate a friend of mine and I got into during the Mets' 13-9 win last night. [If you want to read something more serious, go read Bismullah.]
Here's the crux of the argument: Is the commercial below, "Chicks Dig the Long Ball," the funniest sports commercial of all time (or, at least, the funniest baseball commercial ever)?
Any better nominees?

It may not technically be a "sports" commercial, but this Gheorghe Muresan snickers commercial has one of the funniest catch-phrases, http://youtube.com/watch?v=C9uaDiRlLBQ.
"Is that cabbage Gheorghe?" still brings a chuckle.

There was a retirement planning ad by a financial services agency a few years back that featured Barry Bonds stepping up to the plate when a voice booms out over the pa system urging him to retire instead of sticking around to break Hank Aaron's home run record. Bonds looked quizically at the announcer's box and behind the mike was -- Hank Aaron.
It was funny then but now its sad.

The Krzyzewski ad actually was a parody of a beer ad. In the real ad, a guy lies about who he is (badly mispronouncing a long Polish name) so he can get a ride in a limo that has Bud Light. The parody (in which Coach K was the limo driver and the guy mispronounces his name) ran once--at the start of the broadcast for the 1994 NCAA Men's Finals (Duke lost to Arkansas).

In the mid-1990's, Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski was in a "Yes I am" advertisement (beer?) that was one of the funniest ads I've ever seen.

Certainly in the top 5 of funny. Consider also some of the late-1970s Miller Lite commercials, especially the ones with Bob Uecker or John Madden.

I think it was intentionally funny from the get go - I don't see anything unintentional or in retrospect. I especially like the baseball bat to the gut.
I wouldn't call it the funniest ever - there are plenty of SportsCenter commercials that are very funny. My favorite is the couple wearing Michigan and Ohio State shirts - "Without sports, this wouldn't be disgusting"

Obviously, that's up to you. But in this case, I think both funny at the time, unintentionally funny, _and_ funny in retrospect...
:-)

Do you mean unintentionally funny? Funny in retrospect?
