the bureaucratic lifestyle

Nice obit today of Charles Thompson, lifelong federal employee and terrorism investigator.  Lots of the classic tropes of the successful bureaucratic career here: the army service to start, the tours of duty across the country in the middle, the citations of merit throughout, and the early out after vesting at the end.
