Those Damned Immigrants

I am happy to announce publication of my colleague Ediberto Roman's new book from NYU Press, Those Damned Immigrant: America's Hysteria Over Undocumented Immigration (with an introduction from Michael Olivas).

Actually, I had exactly the opposite reaction to the title: this title is unfit for a serious academic study. Maybe the contents of the book are nuanced and rigorous, but I bet great many of us won't get that far, being put off by the snide, patronizing, partisan, and cheap title.

The establishment and the upper class like immigration because it helps them cost labor costs. Hence the establishment disdain for the working class dislike of immigration. And this book title takes the viewpoint of the upper class establishment.
