Escaping the Wardman

Good luck to everyone going through the FRC over the next couple of days.  I strongly recommend taking a walk away from the Wardman when your schedule allows -- even if you don't have the time to watch the otters play at the zoo (as commenter Bacon suggests), just taking the one-third mile trek  up Connecticut Avenue to Starbucks will do wonders to rejuvenate the mind and body.

I'd like to offer a contrarian perspective:

Hang out at the Wardman, and leave as little as possible (to get meals and such). Immerse yourselves in the intellectual culture that'll surround you. Enjoy the company, try to make contacts, and discuss your past work and future plans. Don't be on edge. Of course you'll need breaks from it all, but this is a rare opportunity to showcase your work, to learn from others, to bump into old friends, and to make new acuaintances.

I realize the job search is extremely stressful, but the pleasure of sharing ideas is immense.
