Eric Barron named new President of FSU
Well, as promised/threatened by the relevant powers that be, the FSU presidential search committee has acted very expeditiously from the time that all nominations were in to the time the selection was made--approximately 3 weeks!
Eric Barron will be replacing TK Wetherell at FSU's helm. This should be a relatively straightforward transition, especially compared to the simultaneous transition over at the Seminoles' football squad, where Bobby Bowden is finally retiring after a zillion years. Anyone wonder if the president will get paid more than the coach?
The press release appears after the jump.

What? Sounds like an impressive hire but FSU should be ashamed for not giving its new president from two weeks to two months after their offer to consider it, compare it to others and explore Tallahassee before accepting it. It sounds to me as if this all of the signs of a coercive exploding offer. Becoming president of a university is a unique decision that requires careful deliberation and attention and should not be rushed, as spouses, etc. need time to make such decisions, especially since he may not have had sufficient time to expore other options. Requiring such a quick decision by your candidate around the time of the holidays is even more astonishing. ;)
