American Idol: Paris, Katharine McPhee, Taylor Hicks, or Daughtry?
So I've long overstayed my welcome here. And I've already dumbed down Prawfsblawg once with a post about American Idol + blogging. After this, I'm sure Dan Markel will be booting me off the island. But my last post on AI did draw a tongue-in-cheek(?) comment from Germany (here). We'll see what this one brings. Now that I've heard all the contestants perform at least once, here are my predictions of what will happen. All of my picks have exceptional voices and some personality, but I'll briefly note their weaknesses. FWIW, my record is 3-1 in AI predictions.
1. Final Four: Paris Bennett (stronger in soul/R&B than pop; probably will be judged by some against the very high standard set by Fantasia in that genre), Katharine McPhee (apparently has no dance moves to speak of and appears a little dorky when she tries -- needs to just stick to the mike like Carrie Underwood eventually did), Taylor Hicks (gray haired guy is the "wild" card + has generated tremendous buzz, but looks + acts weird, esp. the body spasms, almost pulled a "Howard Dean meltdown" on last show), and Chris Daughtry (shaved head guy can't win if he sings rock songs -- Bo Bice tried that last year and lost -- needs to perform some pop and softer alternative like Maroon 5).

Duh, It is reported Katahrine has taken dance since she was about 2 years old. Trust me........you obviously don't know what your talking about in this area . She should be able to dance circles around the rest of them if and when she is so inclined.

Yeah, man, 'cause taking dance lessons means you'll automatically get coordination... wait a minute... nope, those dance lessons didn't help me. Obviously, George, you're assessment of the issue is biased. Time to come to grips with reality.

Perhaps we should use the Idol format as a new mechanism for picking Supreme Court Justices. It's hard to imagine that panel doing any worse a job than the Senate Judiciary Committee; you might say that Simon Cowell isn't going to understand the nominee's answers - but I repeat myself.

I hate myself for watching Idol, but I want Katharine to win just so I can see and hear more of her... if I didn't know better I would totally be crushing on her. She's so beautiful, and I dig her carefree personality.
But anyway, yeah. I think she's got a shot, and I agree with your estimation of the competition- it'll come down to Katharine, Taylor, or Paris. I don't think Chris has a chance, because, well, frankly he sucks.
My vote is for Kate to take it all.

Taylor Hicks can take this!!
Not only can he sing...he has the looks and personality and beautiful smile of a True American Idol.
He seems decent and down to earth, and will represent the music industry well.

I love everything about Katharine McPhee,she got the whole package, she's a great singer, she got great vocals, she's so pretty, she's likeable, and i love her carefree personality...........

Katharine is perfect to be the winner. She is talented and very beautiful girl. Her personality is great! She is really nice. I hope she win this. America should vote for her. Anyway, I can't wait to buy your album.

I'm already tired with Katherine's **** me look and big bambi eyes. Enough already! Also enough of the camera showing her father with big tears running down his face! I love Paris. She is such a little doll and seems like a really nice person. Great voice. Can't help but love Elliott; cute and goofy but with an awesome voice. Enough of Chris hollering in the mike at the top of his voice. He'll be lucky to have any voice left at all. Love Taylor Hicks moves, voice and personality. He rocks and kicks AI in the ass every week with his individuality just being himself. His fan base is huge and international. I think Taylor should win because he is his own person and has a blast performing and singing!
