John Tierney is a Moron

His first idiotic piece, What Women Want, resulted in a promise that I would never read his column again.  I violated that promise because I thought his latest, The Urge to Win, might be a recantation.  No luck.  It seems that he really believes that women just don't have what it takes to sit and memorize 7 letter words because they are too busy gathering in lobbies to chase sexy male rock stars and male Scrabble champions.  I really can't quite believe the New York Times publishes this shit.

Here's part of the "argument": "You can argue that this difference is due to social influences, although I suspect it's largely innate, a byproduct of evolution and testosterone." Is that what Tierney suspects? Fascinating. And just what are his qualifications again?

The facile evolutionary theory is also fairly pathetic, I think. More unimpressive still seems to be his belief that we couldn't change the evolutionary behavior if we wanted to. In any case, suggesting that women are pre-programmed to become groupies looking to sleep with successful men is nothing short of offensive. The "proof by Scrabble" did nothing to illuminate the "argument."

Sorry for the intemperate sounding off. But I think this forum is a reasonably appropriate place to express myself free of the strictures of academic rigor.
